Public Announcement-FSM FFY 2013 Part B Application
The FSM Department of Education announces that an application for funding under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) is being submitted for Federal Fiscal Year 2013. The FSM receives funding under IDEA to provide special education and related service programs for eligible children with disabilities and their families.

IDEA requires that the annual application for funding be made available for Public Review and Comment. Consistent with this requirement, The FSM Department of Education announces that the Annual State Application under Part B of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act as Amended in 2004 for Federal Fiscal Year 2013 will be submitted to the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education on May 15, 2013.

2012 FSM Special Education Leadership Meeting
On September 18-21, 2012, Special Education program management, state advisory council chairpersons, Maternity Child Health Care (MCH), and key staff from all the four FSM States and National Department of Education (NDOE)-Division of Special Services convened in Chuuk State for the 2012 Special Education Leadership Meeting. The purpose of this meeting was to review the requirements for the FSM 2011-2012 State Performance Plan (SPP) and Annual Performance Report (APR) for Special Education due to US Office of Special Education Program (OSEP) in February 2013 and to address other reporting requirements.

Expanding American Sign Language Services in FSM
A team from WorldTeach, Gallaudet University/Gallaudet University Regional Center of the Pacific and the University of Hawai'i Center on Disability Studies/Pacific Deaf-Blind Project visited Pohnpei State on the 10th -13th of September, 2012.

FSM Special Education Procedural Manual and Response to Intervention Handbook Training
July 15-17, 2012 - FSM Special Education 101 Training - In conjunction with the MTEC Conference that was held in Yap State on July 9-11, 2012, NDOE Special Education sponsored a focused training on the revised Special Education Handbook and Forms that was completed with the assistance of Dr. Steve Spencer, FSM Special Education Consultant from San Diego State University. We have been working on the revisions to the handbook during the past years with input on the draft versions being provided by States’ special education representatives.
